Co-created with Oliver Rubli and Bernhard Moosbauer in 2003, the “Compact Box Project” features interactive turntables with records featuring custom sound loops created with samples from recorded music and manipulated audio tracks that I created. Viewers are invited to walk through the installation and change the tracks according to their fancy, creating a playful and immersive experience that invites them to reappropriate the rules and explore the potential inherent in randomness. The installation was updated in 2007 to include black and white video sequences, triggered by the track selection of a viewer and randomly selected and colorized through a computer algorithm’s selections.
